FAQ

What's The Giclée Process?

Because of the rich and true colors of the giclée printing process, it has become the choice of reproduction by artists, galleries, and collectors. Developed in 1989, the giclée process uses pigment-based ink; thus, less fading occurs than when using dye-based inks. Research test results indicate that using archival grade pigment-based inks and acid-free paper allows for an image stability rating of greater than 80 years.

The printing process begins with the image being scanned on a high resolution scanner and then digitally stored. The scan is sent to an Epson Stylus Pro 11880 high resolution, inkjet printer which produces the technologically advanced continuous tone color instead of a screen pattern of dots. The paper used for the print is Elegance 310 GM, a digital fine art paper. The acid free-paper produces an excellent image with sharpness and optimum color gradation.

The result is an image virtually indistinguishable from the original artwork. Giclées are recognized as superior prints and can be seen in the Metropolitan Museum of New York, the Guggenheim Museum, and other well respected museums worldwide.
